PODCAST - #1 mistake businesses make when building elearning programs
===
[00:00:00] Learning Transformed is brought to you by E-Learning Partners, your guide to designing transformational learning experiences in the age of ai. For millennia human intelligence was the highest form of intelligence on earth. Until now. Hi, I'm ai. I can process more information in seconds than any human in a lifetime.
This shift raises not only practical questions about the future of learning, but existential ones about the meaning of human life, growth and evolution
on this podcast hosted by me. Johnny Ha. We navigate these questions with clarity, creativity, and confidence. As the most adaptable species on the planet, we cannot only survive the rise of [00:01:00] artificial intelligence, but create better human centered, AI powered learning experiences that elevate humanity to a new era of abundance, transformation and meaning
AI is rising. And so are we
Now, let's dive in.
Today on the show, I'm gonna share with you the number one biggest mistake that companies of all sizes, big and small, make. When building their e-learning program, and then I'm gonna share with you step by step what you should be doing instead. So here's what typically happens. Individuals all the way up to s and p 500 companies hear about e-learning, hear about online courses, hear about learning experiences, [00:02:00] and think I need that.
I want that right now. This happened a lot during 2020. We all know what happened in 2020. Everyone was like, I need this. I need it now. What's the next step? And that's where the biggest mistake happens. The number one biggest mistake is
it's not pretty. IT shoes. A platform or technology before they define what success or ROI looks like for their business. Oh, that's a mouthful. But this is the biggest mistake and here's why. E-learning,
what does the E stand for? [00:03:00] Right now at least it stands for electric online courses. What does online mean? It means tech. This is why I prefer learning. Experiences.
The problem here is even though learning is the root of what we're creating, we're still missing. ROI, because you can create a learning experience that no one ever takes. But that is why this is the biggest mistake that individuals all the way up to big businesses, big enterprises, s and p 500 companies, make.
Is investing too much in the [00:04:00] technology before defining what success looks like for what they're creating. What does ROI look like for what they're creating? Now that we got that out of the way, here's what I invite you and your team to do instead. Step one, I want you to look at your business. And do an audit.
Audit can come off as a very scary word, and there's a reason why I use it because you need to really dig deep and think about what is your organization getting out of having the e-learning program, having a learning experience. Creating a learning business, and if the answer isn't that [00:05:00] your business has knowledge that learners want, and you probably shouldn't do this in the first place, that's why we start with.
An audit. We wanna look at what can, integrating a learning business into what you're currently doing, or maybe you're starting a learning business from scratch. Either way, we wanna look at what opportunities are there.
Well, opportunities in any business learning business or else are, what do your customers. What do your employees, what do they want and what do they need? What do they want is going to dictate if you're actually gonna get anyone to take your program, what do they need is [00:06:00] gonna dictate if they're actually gonna get any value outta the program.
You gotta identify what they want. So that you can get them to take the program, but then you wanna deliver what they need. 'cause people don't always know what they need. They know what they want. Like I want this. Then you gotta deliver what they need. That is where the opportunity is. Do you have what they want?
It's not what you want. That's one of the biggest reasons why. E-learning fails is because organizations teach what they want, not what their employees want or what their customers want. Because we can have an internal or an external e-learning program, an internal or an external learning experience program.
What do they want? And they gotta deliver what they need so they can get the results. Those are the opportunities we also wanna audit because we wanna see if there are any places in your business where there [00:07:00] are hidden costs. I guarantee you right now that there are costs in your business. There are hidden costs that you are not aware of, or you may think that they're not hidden costs.
The reason why we say hidden costs is because it could be something that you're like, oh yeah, we're paying for this. But it, uh, actually is a cost. As an example, one of my VIP coaching clients, they've been spending money on an email marketing software, and when we started working together, I got them set up with Kajabi.
Kajabi is my favorite. Externally facing e-learning technology, e-learning platform, learning experience system, whatever you wanna call it, helps you run your e-learning business and actually sell courses, sell experiences to your learners. [00:08:00] Well, something that didn't used to be a hidden cost was this email marketing software, but now that they're using Kajabi.
To run everything they no longer need to pay for the email marketing software. Another one of my VIP coaching clients, Mario and his SOS program support over suicide program. As of recording this video, we are in the process of putting together a website with his courses, with all of his marketing avenues, all in one place.
Right now, it's segmented everywhere, and there are costs related to that segmentation. But by bringing that all together and utilizing once again. Platform Kajabi, which if you're interested by the way, you can grab a 30 day free trial of Kajabi in the YouTube [00:09:00] description or in the show notes. If you're listening to this as a podcast, I'm also gonna give you, as a bonus, my Kajabi made simple online course, which is gonna help you and your team get Kajabi set up from scratch so that you can start earning money before you even have to pay for Kajabi.
And then once you pay for Kajabi. I'm gonna give you my platform to profit strategy session, which is worth thousands of dollars where I sit down with you and your team and we go through how to do this. Find opportunities and create ROI in your business so you can maximize the value of Kajabi in your business and will also uncover hidden costs.
So step one is really just assessing the business need, making sure that you are making an informed investment. Step two is to simplify. If integrating an e-learning [00:10:00] program, a learning experience program into your business does not simplify your business, then I don't know if you should be doing it.
What does simplify mean? Well, once we've identified the opportunities, just like I do with my enterprise learning accelerator partnership clients, and once we identify those hidden costs, which I've done with Mark saying that, hey, doesn't have to pay for Kajabi. And this other software, which I've done with Mario saying that, Hey, we can actually cut all these things down into one software.
It is time to start simplifying, and the best way to do this is to review your audit and break it into to parts. You're 80% and you're 20%. What does this even mean? Well, this is also known as the Pareto principle. Where 80% of what you're doing in your business [00:11:00] drives 20% of results, 20% of what you do in your business creates 80% of results.
And when you integrate an e-learning program into your business, we wanna make sure that it falls into the 20%. We should also do our best to eliminate the 80%. 'cause if we take all the staff, all the money, everything, we're investing in the 80% and we reinvest into the 20%, you'll immediately be spending four times more on what's driving the majority of the impact in your business.
Four times more. When we reallocate this time, I don't want your e-learning programs [00:12:00] to create more fluff in your business. They need to be built to capitalize on the 20%. So how do we do that? Well, let's say that we find that all these activities that make up to 20% of our business are driving. All of these results, but only 20% of the people in our business know how to do it Well, what you can do is use your e-learning program to educate the 80% of how to do the 20%.
This would be an internal program, same thing, let's say on your sales team. Most likely, most of your sales are coming from 20% of your team. Great. Let's take your e-learning program and educate the other 80% of your sales team [00:13:00] how to get the results that 20% are getting. Now, what if you are a software company and there's a specific software or a specific part of your software that people.
Organizations, consumers, whoever you serve, are investing in the most. And you know that if you could teach them how to get even more value out of the software, they would stay longer and they would tell others to buy more. That's where you could throw e-learning into the 20% once again. And what I see.
And this is a great idea. If you are running a software company, what if you created a certification on how to use your software just like CoStar has been doing? When you create a certification of how to use your software, [00:14:00] now people are going to invest in that certification. Your top users are gonna be like, oh, I wanna get certified in this software.
I wanna become better and better at this software. Here's why this is brilliant. You have your software, you have your certification. You are gonna have people that purchase your software
and then they're gonna wanna get better at the software. So what are they gonna do? They're gonna purchase your certification so they get better at your software. Then they're gonna take that certification and they're gonna put that certification on. Their resume, LinkedIn,
et cetera. [00:15:00] They're also going to tell people that they got the certification in the software and how much it has helped them. So what's gonna happen is you're gonna sell more software, which means you're gonna sell. More certifications. So this is a loop. They inform each other. The more software you sell, the more certifications you're gonna sell, the more certifications you're gonna sell, the more software you're gonna sell.
Because when people actually have the certification, they're gonna be more likely to keep paying for your software. Tell other people about the software. This. It is how you simplify your business and you double down, triple down, quadruple down on the 20%. We create this back and forth profit center and like I said, it even [00:16:00] branches off into so many other ways.
But these inform one another. Software certification. Software certification, and it all started with. Someone buying the software and then you giving them a certification to purchase and you can do this outside of software. You can have people get certified using your products and it basically empowers your organization to get paid.
For marketing. So instead of you having to pay for marketing, you're getting paid for marketing because now the certification of the CHIA certification is out there in the world and people are like the chia, wow. I want to get my chia. Your CAA certification is out in the world. The Kata. I want to get the Kata.
CPA certification is out in the world. Oh, I should probably get my CPA license. All these different things. It is paid marketing. You are getting paid and then your certification is getting marketed and your software is getting marketed at the same [00:17:00] time. Step three, automate. Okay. Once we identify the opportunities, we uncover those hidden costs, then we simplify our business by eliminating those hidden costs, capitalizing on those opportunities, it is time to automate this whole thing.
And we automate it in two ways with our people and with our technology, and yes, with ai, but we don't wanna automate. Our program, until we know why we're even implementing this program, then we can start looking at the technology. Technology is step three, not step one. And step one and two are pretty intensive.
We have to audit, we have to simplify, then we get to automate, and then we wanna make sure that we're not overspending on our technology. Which is why I've created my e-Learning platform Finder is built to save you five [00:18:00] to 200 x on your technology investment to automate this whole process, to empower you to create these learning experiences.
So you actually get ROI. Well, we wanna start on the right foot. Which is why we wanna start by saving five to 200 x, not creating a hidden cost that we're gonna audit and find in the future. So what I invite you to do is check out my e-Learning platform finder. It is linked in the show notes and in the description of this video, if you're watching on YouTube, you're gonna fill out just a couple of questions and I'm gonna match you with your perfect E-Learning platform.
And we do this by giving you a free trial. Of the software, I give you a free course in my made simple course series. To help you get everything up and running before you even have to pay a dime. And then when you do start paying for the platform, I give you my platform to profit strategy session, which is worth thousands of dollars, will help you and your business create the best ROI [00:19:00] plan to get the most value out of your software in your company, day one.
So instead of spending 50 K to $1 million a year on technology. You are only gonna be spending less than five KA year, and this is just if you're making $50 million a year in top line revenue. If you are making way less than that, then you're probably only gonna be spending about $1,500 a year on your platform.
Exponentially less than what people are typically spending on e-learning platforms out there. And step four, you guessed it, profit by implementing steps one through three into your business, which I have an acronym for you. This is called the ASAP Model [00:20:00] Audit. Simplify, automate. And then we profit. By implementing this into your business, you're going to create a e-learning machine that saves your organization six figures per year at least drives revenue.
A million, 2 million, 3 million, 5 million, $10 million or more per year, either by making your teams more efficient or by actually creating a program that you're selling, and then you have all this profit to reinvest. In this model, we do an audit again, then we simplify more. [00:21:00] We invest in what is actually working.
Then we automate what is actually working, and we just keep growing our global footprint by harnessing the power of e-learning to save our company money, to help us scale instead of wasting our company money and causing us to fail. Now, if you wanna partner in implementing. The ASEP method. I invite you to check out my Enterprise Learning Accelerator Partnership program.
It is linked in the show notes and in description below. If you're watching this as a video. I typically partner with mission-driven organizations making around $50 million a year to harness the power of e-learning. To save six figures or more annually, which compounds to millions of dollars over time [00:22:00] to create long lasting impact in the world.
