Now, let's dive in.
Today on the show, we're gonna uncover your peak state together. Your peak state will help you get exponential jumps in your business. It's gonna help you grow your e-learning programs globally so that you can impact your learners around the world. And by getting in a peak state, you are going to do the best work.
Of your life, you're gonna start [00:02:00] living your life at a different level than everybody else. So we're gonna start with the what. What is a peak state in the first place? Then we're gonna go into why is it important for you and your business and your life? And then I'm gonna show you how you can get into a peak state on your own.
So let's start with what, what is a peak state? Well, a peak state is a physical, mental, emotional, and even spiritual state where all of these systems. Are in alignment and functioning near their best. Every single one of these that is within you, this means that your energy, your focus, your creativity and your resilience are all elevated.
I first discovered the power of peak state as an ultra runner. I discovered that when all of my [00:03:00] systems are in alignment, I achieve amazing things. I grew up with asthma and at a really young age, I was told by doctors that I would never be a runner. They told me there was no way I was gonna be a runner in any capacity.
Fast forward 30 years later, I completed multiple marathons and ultimately became an ultra runner. Running 30, 40, 50, 60 plus miles in one sitting. Well, the only way that I've been able to do that is by aligning all of these systems and getting completely in the zone. This is also looked at as being in the zone or flow state.
In performance psychology, flow state is a huge thing. Hungarian American psychologist, Mihi Cheek, sent Mihi coined. The term and what flow state is, is when you're deeply absorbed in what you're doing, time seems to slowly disappear, and you feel totally. Engaged. This is where amazing [00:04:00] things happen, and I've seen this in ultra running, where for 12 hours, the only thing that matters is completing the run in 90 degree heat.
I was able to win my f. First a hundred K ultra that I ran because I made it into flow state. Well, whenever I learned something running or running my business, I always translate it to the other thing. So when I figured out how powerful flow state or peak state or being in the zone is to my athletic career, I knew that I needed to.
Figure out how to create this. In my business career, I knew that I wanted to recreate peak state in my life, in my personal life, with the time I spend with my fiance, with the time I spend with our dog, with the time I spend with my friends, my family. Peak state is the most beautiful state that you can be in.
That's why when you talk to high level athletes, they say that [00:05:00] something overcomes them and they're invincible. This is why you have probably experienced this when you're working on a project. Maybe you're doing a workout and you just feel completely. Nothing can touch you. Your productivity skyrockets well, when you are in a peak state, this is what you are experiencing.
Enhanced cognitive performance. This means focus. This means decision making creativity when you are in flow or in peak state. This is a superpower for your cognition. This is a superpower for your cognition. In addition, when you are in peak state, you'll experience elevated energy and physical readiness.
This is why I hear stories about people doing amazing things like lifting a thousand pounds to save a child. When you are at peak state, your body is at a different level. It is operating at a higher level. [00:06:00] Energetically and physically, energetically and physically. In addition to cognitively, you'll also experience emotional regulation, resilience and wellbeing.
This means that distractions of fear, lack, scarcity, will not bother you because you are so zoned in and regulated. That none of that even comes into your mind. You are in a place of abundance, joy, happiness, peace, and freedom. You get a mental bonus, a physical bonus and emotional bonus, and that leaves us with spiritual, you'll be connected with your higher vision.
And purpose in life. This is all that matters. When you are in a peak state, all of these systems are aligned, and when you consistently create a peak state, all of this compounds [00:07:00] time after time, after time again. Think about it, when an athlete is consistently in a peak. This means that they're consistently serving their teams the best.
This is what Nikola Yoic does and why he's won so many MVPs in the NBA. This is why Tom Brady played for so long in the NFL. This is why Christiano Ronaldo has played at such a high level for so long because they've been able to. Show up at a peak state day after day after day, so it compounds and builds momentum.
And you can do this too in your business and in your life. I've experienced so much success by being in a peak state that I have my own routine of how to get there. I'm gonna share it with you right now. This is how I do it, and I invite you to start thinking through what will help you get in a peak state.
We are different people and while certain things definitely transfer over, [00:08:00] I want you to think about when you were in a peak state last, what did you do? Right before that, what makes you feel all the things that we talked about today, whatever it is, you can start compounding these things and putting them together, habit, stacking them into a peak state routine.
For me, I kick off every morning with something called EFT. This stands for emotional freedom. Techniques. And really what it is, is it's tapping. It's tapping on different pressure points on our body where there's a pressure point here where I set up the statement. I deeply and profoundly accept myself, even though I feel unworthy.
There's a spot here, which if I do this too much, you're not gonna able to hear me. But there's a spot here where I say, I deeply and profoundly accept myself because I am worthy. And what it does for me is I'm rewriting old thought patterns into [00:09:00] abundant thought patterns. So I do EFT every morning. It only takes a minute or two.
The next thing I do is I hydrate. I drink one to two large glasses of water and I add lemon to it. This helps my body know that it's time to get up and start doing things, and I'm giving my body what it needs right out of the gate. Now, the key with getting into a peak state is you want to get into it as early in the day as.
Possible because in the morning hours of the day is going to be your peak hours of energy anyway, so you compound the power of this and extend the peak state throughout the day. Next. I review my goals. I like to review my goals 'cause this starts putting my goals into my subconscious. And by doing this every single day, you start putting your goals on repeat in your head.
This only takes about 30 seconds every morning. To review your goals. If you don't have goals, then I highly recommend that you start with creating at least one impossible [00:10:00] goal. An impossible goal is a goal that is 10 x bigger than what you have in your life right now, and your goal is to achieve it in three years or less.
I have an entire YouTube video and podcast episode about how impossible goals are the only goals worth having, and I teach you how to. Set them there. So I highly recommend you check out that episode. You wanna review your goals every morning. Then I like to journal and I start by just writing one sentence.
It could be anything. It could be positive or negative. If I'm in a positive state, then I'm gonna say positive things. If I'm in a negative state, my goal is to get the negative thoughts. Out onto the paper into my journal so that I can make room for positive emotions, positive writing, and I always transition from negative writing in my journal to positive, which brings me to the next point, gratitudes.
So the reason why I journal first is because I don't wanna force gratitudes if I'm actually in a bad mood. I want to start by [00:11:00] getting my thoughts, my emotions on the paper, getting it out of here and onto paper so that I don't have to store it here anymore, and then I move into gratitudes. Then I also like to meditate.
Meditation is so powerful. Maybe you like to pray either way, when you. Pray when you meditate, you are connecting with yourself, and if you're praying, you're connecting to a higher power, which is very grounding. Really what we're doing here is we're slowly elevating ourselves. That's why I stack all these different habits, 'cause all of these individually on a.
Certain day. One of them may help me more than others, but I have all of them because I have tools to elevate myself to a peak state. Then I love to work out. So working out is a huge thing that you can do, and this is probably, if you're gonna do one thing on the board, then working out is probably the thing.
Not only is it gonna help you get into a peak state, there are so many other benefits of working out from a short term perspective. Working out gives you energy, it helps you [00:12:00] lose weight. It helps you show up more powerfully every single day. 'cause you're stronger, you have strength, you have more cardiovascular and physical strength.
From a long-term perspective, working out on a consistent basis is shown to decrease all cause mortality rates by 35%. Let me say that again. All cause mortality rates all cause deaths from chronic illness, from disease. Decreased by 35% when you have a consistent workout routine. So if for some reason working out doesn't help you get into a peak state, it at the very least is gonna help decrease your likelihood of all cause mortality.
Next. And this has really been the cherry on top for me, that has really pushed me into being able to get into a peak state whenever I want. And it's taking a cold shower if I'm already in. A elevated state because of all these other things I've done. 'cause I do all these other things, fur, then cold shower elevates me even more.
[00:13:00] So working out elevates me even more. I do all these other things first. EFT, hydrate, reviewing goals, journal gratitudes, meditate, and then I work out. So I'm already in a great place and then working out brings me even more closer to that peak state and then a cold shower. It brings me the rest of the way.
What I find though, is if I'm in a very low state, so let's say that we have on our board here a line and up here on the scale or the line, we have peak state, and then down here we have low energy. Let's call this depression. For me, each of these things, each of these items. Now I don't usually start in depression, but let's say here we start in the middle, and this is neutral.
This is a neutral state. We'll just go neutral. And let's say that I start in a neutral state. When I wake up in the morning, typically I start above neutral. Let's say I start neutral, then every single one of these things moves me up a little bit, and that's the goal. We wanna move [00:14:00] towards peak state, and then cold shower brings me the rest of the way.
Well, let's say that I'm. Feeling depressed. Tony Robbins says that if you aren't feeling good, if you are emotionally not feeling good, then change your state. Well, how do you change your state? Well, change your physical state. You have control over changing your physical state. Well, I throw myself into a cold shower.
I don't actually throw myself. I walk into a cold shower. My state changes real quick. I can get from depressed to at least neutral pretty quickly with a cold shower. Can do the same thing with working out with high intensity. I can throw some burpees down and elevate my mood pretty quick and at least get to neutral.
So some days I'm just trying to get outta depression into neutral, and that is really powerful. I'd rather do work from neutral than from depression, but when I can bring myself from neutral up to peak or. Once you start doing this and starts compounding, then you're gonna start here. Now it's easier to get in the peak state, and that's why this is so powerful is the more you get into peak state, the [00:15:00] easier it is to get yourself in a peak state.
And another thing that really compounds, and this isn't like a thing that you will necessarily see returns right away. From a peak state perspective, but eating healthy, so healthy food can help you get into a peak state, but it's really after the fact. What I find is if I have a day of eating really unhealthy, I'm gonna feel it on the scale the next day.
I'm gonna start lower on the scale because I ate unhealthy the day before, but when I eat healthy, I get to start higher on the scale. So while. I won't necessarily eat a salad and feel amazing right away. I feel amazing. Four or five hours later, I sleep better. I feel amazing the next day. So what I want you to do now is figure out what are your tools that can help you get into a peak steak.
