PODCAST - The 4 Steps to Learn Anything Fast
===
[00:00:00] Learning Transformed is brought to you by E-Learning Partners, your guide to designing transformational learning experiences in the age of ai. For millennia human intelligence was the highest form of intelligence on earth. Until now. Hi, I'm ai. I can process more information in seconds than any human in a lifetime.
This shift raises not only practical questions about the future of learning, but existential ones about the meaning of human life, growth and evolution
on this podcast hosted by me. Johnny Ha. We navigate these questions with clarity, creativity, and confidence. As the most adaptable species on the planet, we cannot only survive the rise of [00:01:00] artificial intelligence, but create better human centered, AI powered learning experiences that elevate humanity to a new era of abundance, transformation and meaning
AI is rising. And so are we
Now, let's dive in.
What do you, your learners and a 4-year-old asthmatic have in common? Well, when I was four years old, I was diagnosed with asthma and I was told that I would never play soccer. The sport that I loved. I would never become a runner, and there was no way I would ever run a marathon. Well, fast forward 30 years later and I not only ran a marathon, I ran an ultra Marathon a hundred K Ultra, and won it.
Proving to you and most importantly to myself, that there is a four [00:02:00] step proven process for you, me, and our learners to learn anything. I'm gonna share that with you today, but we're gonna start by going through why most people struggle to learn anything new. We're gonna start with the three reasons why most people struggle to learn anything new.
The first one is we learn a lot of information. In theory without taking action, information and knowledge may be power, but action equals results. And this is what I learned becoming an ultrarunner, that you gotta take action to get results. And as we go through this, I want you to not only think how you can integrate this into your life to get results for yourself.
But how can you integrate this into your e-learning programs, your training programs, your online courses, your learning experiences, teaching your learners, your customers, your employees, whoever you're teaching, so we can get them even better results? And that brings me to the second reason most people struggle to learn anything new.[00:03:00]
Johnny, I'm taking action and I'm getting results. They're just not the right results. Well, that's because you're most likely taking the wrong actions. I personally have been stuck doing this for a long time, and really this is what held me back from becoming an elite ultra runner for a long time. I mean, I could've become an elite ultra runner and half the time if I was taking the right actions right out of the gate.
It wasn't until I hired a coach who has not only ran some of the hardest a hundred mile races in the world in less than 24 hours, but has been running 50 to a hundred miles every week for decades that I learned the right actions to take. Remember what got you here? Won't necessarily get you there. What got me to become a runner in the first place wasn't gonna take me to becoming a race winning ultra marathoner.
But Johnny, I have all the information, knowledge, and theory, and I'm taking the right actions. [00:04:00] Why am I not learning anything new? Why am I not achieving what I want to achieve? That's because. You're giving up too early. It wasn't enough for me to just hire an elite running coach, have all the right information and execute the plan.
I had to execute the plan for six months on top of the base mileage that I had built over three years, so three years plus six months. Equals first place. It wasn't just knowing the right things, taking the right action. It was knowing the right things and taking the right action. For a long period of time to get the result, and that's why I'm gonna share with you my four step process of learning anything fast so that you can do the same thing in your life and you can coach and guide your learners to do the same thing in their lives so that you can create return on investment for you and your organization, [00:05:00] and return on investment to your learners in investing in you and your organization.
Now, while I have got an amazing results, integrating these four steps into my life. And my learners' lives. These are not my steps. I got these from Tony Robbins. Tony Robbins is a extremely successful businessman and human. He has started and invested in numerous businesses that are cumulatively worth billions in billions of dollars.
So if his step-by-step process is good enough to create that result, it is good enough for you and I. To create our results, and that really brings me to step one, embody the beliefs of a master at the thing you want to learn. This is why, by the way, we are using a three step process created by Tony Robbins.
He is a master and this is why. Instead of just accumulating information, this is why instead of just taking [00:06:00] action, you need to change your beliefs and figure out what the beliefs are of a person who's really good at the thing you want to do. When I hired my coach, it wasn't hiring the coach and having her write out my workout plan.
That was the most helpful. That gave me the actions that I needed to take, but if I didn't change my beliefs, if I didn't learn how she thinks when racing, how she executes, races. Have you ever heard of be, do have. Well, when you embody the beliefs of a master, you are being well. In order to ultimately have the results that you want to learn, the thing that you want, you have to start by being.
Then we get to the doing. This is the action that we're taking, and then ultimately we'll get to the having be, do, [00:07:00] have. This is the simplest process that you can integrate into your life. Well, the being is believing. When you believe like a master, you do like a master and you have like a master. When you do like you not a master, you are going to have like you not a master.
So let's start by figuring out who the expert is. If you're teaching your learners how to do something, you need to give them the mindset and the beliefs that they need. Before they start the doing, this is why step one of my VIP coaching experience is to harness the power of mindset so that we can create a global business that impacts people around the world powerfully through e-learning.
We do that by being. We do that by changing our beliefs and creating a mindset to be that business owner. Step one was [00:08:00] beliefs. Step two is creating the physiological state of a master. What does this mean? How does a master at what you are learning, what you want to learn to do? Show up physically. In the world?
Well, for me, when it came to becoming an elite ultra runner, I not only looked at my coach, I looked at some of the best athletes in the world and how they carry themselves athletes like Tom Brady. Tom Brady didn't drink during the NFL season. And even though there's images of him partying after the Super Bowl, that's when you can actually afford to party during the season, during the preseason, he did not drink.
Or if he did, it was very, very minimal. So I started creating the physiological state of elite athletes. I looked at other athletes like Christiano, Ronaldo, another athlete who really cuts down on alcohol. I looked at LeBron James and how he sleeps for at least 10 hours a day. I increased my [00:09:00] sleep, increased my rest.
I really studied the top athletes in the world to see their physiological state. And I'm doing the same when it comes to business now. 'cause once I learn something and I apply it to one part of my life, so I applied it to ultra running, now I'm applying it to the rest of my life. And for me, I want to be the best.
Business owner that I possibly can serving a hundred million people worldwide by partnering with organizations, mission-driven organizations to create powerful e-learning programs. That's my goal. In order to do that, I am matching the physiological state of the best business owners that I look up to.
All of these amazing business owners like Tony Robbins, Myron Golden Graham Cochran, Dr. Benjamin Hardy, integrate an amazingly powerful morning routine to take them outta scarcity to abundance. So this is what I do. And I don't just do it in the morning. I'm always [00:10:00] looking to move myself away from scarcity and towards abundance.
One of the biggest things that I've seen a lot of these guys do is Tony Robbins does cold exposure daily. Myron Golden does cold exposure daily. All these people exercise daily and they exercise in the morning because the goal is to put ourselves. Into a state of abundance. When I won my first a hundred K Ultra race, I did a lot of visualization and I not only visualized winning, I was practicing something.
I don't even know what I was practicing at the time, but it is called, in retrospect, joyful anticipation. Joyful anticipation is really abundance. It's when you focus. On the outcome, the positive outcome, the abundant outcome that you are working towards. And what that does is this creates momentum. When you focus on abundance, when you focus on joyful [00:11:00] anticipation, it creates momentum.
Think about this, the night before Christmas or your birthday or just, or trip, um, something that you're really looking forward to in life. How excited are you? Do you want to go to bed? Do you go to bed early so you can get up early? That's exactly what I did growing up with Christmas, and I was so excited.
I was excited for the presents, all this stuff. I was excited for Christmas morning, so I would go to bed early and I would get up really early. That was the day of the year. I would get up the earliest. Well, there were some days that I would get up early on Saturday mornings to watch Scooby Doo, where are you?
Cartoons, but same thing, that's joyful anticipation. When you are joyfully anticipating something, you do things to make it happen. I'm sorry, but kids don't usually wake up really early unless there's something to look forward to. I would get up at like five in the morning because that's the only time I'd be able to watch Scooby Doo joyful anticipation.
I would get up at five in the morning 'cause I wanted to open up my presence as soon as I could. Joyful anticipation. [00:12:00] What can we do to move ourselves outta scarcity into abundance? Well, let's embrace the physiological state of masters at the craft. We wanna become a master in step three. Think in the same sequence as masters, the same sequence.
Just knowing all the right things isn't gonna get you where you need to be. Once you have the belief system, once you have the physiology, now. We need to put together the mental syntax or the same sequence of actions when you're firing off what you need to do to do the thing, you need to do it in the specific order.
That Masters Teach for Running. This meant that on my final lap of my a hundred K Ultra, we took it easy. I took time to refuel because we needed to pass the first place runner at the right time. The sequence mattered. [00:13:00] If I had forced myself to pass the first place runner earlier on in that final lap, which means that I may have skipped refueling, it means that I would've pushed harder than I needed to climbing this hill.
Then I don't know if I would've won this race. But since my coach had a specific sequence that we needed to execute everything in, which started with me sitting down and taking five minutes to rest my legs, get food, hydration and electrolytes into my system, and then she took me on a specific. Pace that she knew that we needed in order to catch the first place runner.
And then when we got to this mountain that I have ran a marathon doing loops over and over during the summer, she said we were gonna walk it. We were executing a specific sequence. Then when we started running down the other side. We saw the first place runner, [00:14:00] and yet again, we still didn't pass him. We went to the next aid station, which he was running out of.
I wanted to skip that aid station. I could have immediately gotten in front of him, but we stopped at the aid station. She re-put ice on my neck. It was 90 plus degrees out and we really needed to keep me. Cool. So there's a sequence. Of events that we needed to execute. Then we finally caught the first place, male runner, and she walked me through how we were gonna pass him.
We're gonna start by clocking his time, then we're gonna pass him, and then we're gonna bury him. I'm like 50 some miles into this race at this point. So I don't really know what she's saying, but I'm like, I feel you we're gonna execute the same sequence we're thinking. Thank God she was doing the thinking for me.
'cause we were thinking in the same sequence as masters, this is what they do. So we don't just pass 'em, we pass them and then we bury 'em. So we passed them and then she made sure that we were running miles two to three minutes faster than him [00:15:00] for the next three miles. And that's what we did. We executed that.
We put so much distance between me and him that he couldn't see us anymore, and that was the key. We didn't wanna just pass him and then let him come and pass us. We wanted to take all of his momentum out of the race, so we executed the same sequence, and then we got faster, faster, faster. And then I won the race.
This is. Something that you can't do until you have the belief, you have the physiology. But once you have the belief, you have the physiology. Let's use that powerful brain that you have and model the thinking of masters. So Johnny, all I need to do is believe, have the physiology, and think like a master.
All I need to do is help my learners believe. Have the physiology and think like a master kind of. But you also step [00:16:00] four, you have to do the thing. You can't just expect that having the belief, the physiology, and thinking is gonna get you there. This is what empowers you to do the thing like a master at the highest level possible.
Now, the next time you want to learn something, I highly recommend that you integrate this. Four step process into your life and when you are looking to teach someone else, that could be a employee, that could be a contractor, that could be a customer, that could be selling a program, that could be training internally to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of your team members, whatever it is.
I invite you to install this into your business, and if you want help doing that, I highly recommend that you sign up for my free masterclass so that you can not only learn how to avoid the three biggest mistakes that organizations make that cause them to create the wrong e-learning programs that don't get [00:17:00] ROI for their business, but I'm gonna help you help your learners by getting to know your learners, identifying their biggest problems, and then creating a solution.
So that they can believe they can have the physiology and they can think so that they can do the thing so that they get results so that you and your business gets results.
