PODCAST - lms vs lxp vs. ai (explained simply) in 2026
===
[00:00:00] Learning Transformed is brought to you by E-Learning Partners, your guide to designing transformational learning experiences in the age of ai. For millennia human intelligence was the highest form of intelligence on earth. Until now. Hi, I'm ai. I can process more information in seconds than any human in a lifetime.
This shift raises not only practical questions about the future of learning, but existential ones about the meaning of human life, growth and evolution
on this podcast hosted by me. Johnny Ha. We navigate these questions with clarity, creativity, and confidence. As the most adaptable species on the planet, we cannot only survive the rise of [00:01:00] artificial intelligence, but create better human centered, AI powered learning experiences that elevate humanity to a new era of abundance, transformation and meaning
AI is rising. And so are we
Now, let's dive in.
Have you ever been overwhelmed by all the different abbreviations there are for different technology and software applications that you can use for your business? Well look no further because today I'm gonna break down what an LMS versus an LXP versus how you can use AI in your e-learning powered business.
Now let's start with what each of these letters actually stands for. [00:02:00] LMS, this is known as a learning management.
System. And for all intents and purposes, LMS is the OG learning technology. Nowadays, LMS is actually do way more than what LM Ss are supposed to do. And I'm gonna break down exactly what to do here in a second. Alex P has been kind of in the last. Five or 10 years, people have been throwing this around.
It's like, I have an LXP. You should invest in an LXP. It's going to drive even more ROI In your business, what is an LXP though? Well, an LXP is a learning
experience. Platform, which, if you really look at this, what the heck is a difference between a [00:03:00] learning management system and a learning experience platform? Sounds like a bunch of jargon to me. Well, it is. And the real thing that matters for you and your business. Is that you are getting a return on investment in whatever system you choose, and your learners are getting a return on investment, interacting with your business and the system that you choose.
By aligning both of those things, you'll be able to drive your business forward and serve more employees, team members, and customers around the world. And if you wanna stop building the wrong e-learning programs and master the three pillars of E-Learning that save my clients multi six figures per year in their businesses, then I highly recommend that you sign up for my free masterclass LinkedIn description below.
Or go to the show notes if you're listening to this, the podcast, or go to eLearning [00:04:00] partners.com/masterclass to check out my free masterclass today. Well, what does AI mean? AI means artificial
intelligence. And how does AI even integrate into all of this? Well, AI. Is really best used to amplify. Everything else without giving AI the proper bones, the proper foundation, the three pillars of E-Learning Foundation that I teach in my free masterclass, content technology and distribution, then AI could really be hurtful for your business.
But if you have the right foundation. AI can take all of this, automate it for you and help you expand globally. No matter if you're new to this or if you've been in the e-learning industry for years. [00:05:00] This breakdown is the simplest you'll find on the internet an LMS for its basic purposes of why you need an LMS in your organization is it does these four things.
It hosts your content. It sequences your content, it delivers your content, and it collects data. An LMS in the most basic sense, the learning Management system is a tool for you and your business to host your courses, to sequence them in an order that's valuable for your learners, to deliver those courses to your learners, and ultimately collect data and feedback from your learners to make your courses better, to serve your learners even more powerfully.
It creates what I call. The LMS value loop because when you integrate an [00:06:00] LMS properly into your business, you are creating value for your learners and your business. So you know what actually happened here? Some really savvy marketing mind came up with, hey. What if we started selling software and instead of an LMS, we call it an LXP.
Let's throw more jargon out there so people think that it's extra special and powerful to serve their learners. We're gonna throw in a bunch of features. We don't even know if these features are gonna help our learners. We don't even know if these features are gonna empower the organization to make more money to serve their learners.
Even better, we don't know. But we're gonna call these systems learning experience platforms. And I say this, and I say this mockingly, because when I list what a learning experience platform does, you're gonna probably look at this and be like, it does way more than that. Or, why doesn't it do this, this, and this.
I, [00:07:00] it doesn't really matter what the features of these things are. What matters is the. Platform gonna provide ROI for your business and for your learners. If it does those two things, then you'll have a successful e-learning program. You'll have a successful business that can grow globally. So when I look at Alex p's, here are the basics of what I believe are the most powerful parts of Alex.
Peace. Lx PS really do everything that an LMS does. Some of them don't actually, but an LX P that is built properly should do everything an LMS does. And. Add some of these things. One, a community, some sort of social aspect where your learners can interact with one another. Now, the reality is LMSs do this too.
Johnny, you know how many LMSs I've seen that do this? What about talent? LMS Talent. LMS, it says talent, [00:08:00] LMS. It doesn't say talent. LXP talent. LMS does this. I know because what happened was people came up with Alex PS and then people got confused. They're like, actually, there's still gonna be LMSs, or they're gonna have LMS in the name, but it's gonna be an Alex P, all this stuff.
It's why the jargon doesn't really matter. The point is, this is kind of. The stage one of E-learning tech, and then we get to stage two, and then here's stage three where we basically say that if we're not using AI, then you're doing it wrong, which isn't even true. AI just takes this and amplifies it if you have the right foundation.
So Alex P, you want to add a community? Community is good if you're training your employees. Community is good. If you're. Using this to sell to your customers, to educate your customers. Either way, a community social aspect integrated into your system is a very powerful future that you and your team will get.
ROI from, at the very least, you're gonna get feedback on your courses and you're gonna [00:09:00] get user generated content, which is the next piece here when you get user generated content. This is not only free content that is created that your team doesn't have to create. Your learners create it, and your learners create it based on gaps in your programs.
They will either ask questions that maybe your program doesn't currently address so that you can address it, or you could even just respond to the question or another learner may respond to the question with the answer. Now that answer lives in your system. This is extremely powerful. This is worth investing in an LXP or an LMS that just has the future or an LMS that just has the future because LMS and Alex P are basic, the same thing, user generated content, and the last one is a personalized experience.
Now this is really. Where AI takes over. But Alex, [00:10:00] ps really hit on this hard for a long time. How do we personalize the experience for every single learner? How do we have adaptive learning where we adapt the programs that we're serving to our learners? Based on their knowledge, based on the gaps that they have, based on what they actually want to learn.
Well, in my head, every personalized program should really be based on what is the ROI the organization is trying to get you investing in the software and the program and the platform and what ROI do your learners want to get. If you can provide the ROI your learners want to get, then you can get the ROI you want to get.
Well, if your learners want to learn a specific thing that's gonna help them get better at their job, that's gonna help them buy more courses, then personalizing the experience in that way for that learner is extremely valuable. L-M-S-L-X-P ai. What does AI do? Well, AI at this point, every LMS that I work with, which is Kajabi [00:11:00] Learn Worlds Talent, LMS Talent Cards, they have all integrated AI into the platform because AI is just an amazing tool to make what already is good, even better.
So it's the same thing with your programs, it's the same thing when you are selecting, uh. Technology. If the technology is already good and it has an AI component, it's gonna make it better. If the technology isn't good and has an AI component, it's gonna make it worse, or it's gonna take you down the wrong rabbit hole.
What you need is to have one E-learning platform that serves your learners, either internally, your employees, or externally your customers. Or if you want to get the most ROI, then I highly recommend that you serve internal. And external. And then what you can do. 'cause right now, as we're recording this video in 2026, I highly recommend that you don't pick a platform based on ai.
You pick a platform based on your [00:12:00] learners, whatever is going to serve your learners best, and then you can do what I do. I layer on. The best AI tools on top of this, which as we're recording this video, could be very different than when you're watching this video right now. As we're recording this, I'm using chat, GBT like crazy, descrip like crazy.
I don't want you to select a platform based on the AI component. I want you to select a platform based on the ROI component for your organization and for your learners, and then you can use. Chat, GPT or whatever your favorite AI platform to work hand in hand with the platform. Now, if you want help selecting a platform, I will help you select the platform.
In a matter of seconds, you're gonna save five to 200 x on your platform investment. Well, Johnny, how is that? Well, what I have found, the clients that I serve, which are $50 million a year [00:13:00] plus companies will spend. A million dollars or 50 K to a million dollars per year or more on a platform. This is crazy to me because I have integrated platforms with $2.7 billion a year.
Companies that cost a fraction of this and that create ROI just the same, if not actually more ROI for our learners, my clients. Spend five to 200 x less, and so can you. All you have to do is check out my free e-Learning platform finder. It is linked in the description below. If you're watching this on YouTube, it is linked in the show notes.
If you're listening to this as a podcast, you can also go to eLearning partners.com/epf to check out my free e-learning. Today, along with getting matched with the right platform for you and your organization, I'm gonna give you access [00:14:00] to a free course to help you maximize the value of the platform and start getting ROI on the platform before you even have to start paying for it.
Why do I do this? Well, because when you do start paying for these platforms, I get a percentage you're gonna pay the same for these platforms either way, but I get a percentage if you use one of these platforms. So it is in my best interest to empower you to get the most value outta these platforms.
'cause the longer you pay for the platform, the longer I make money off the platform. The longer your learners get value outta the platform, the longer your organization gets value out the platform, the longer my organization gets to serve you and support you And yes. Get monetarily rewarded for matching you with the right platform.
I'll see you in the next episode.
