Kajabi vs. Teachable: Which Platform is Best for Selling Online Courses?

You want to create an online course to sell but have no idea which online course platform you should use. Well, we felt the same way years ago while creating our first course. So, in this article, we will talk about two platforms we’ve tried and tested: Kajabi vs. Teachable. One of them cost us a failure several years ago, and the other one is a platform we use now to sell our eLearning Simplified Academy course successfully.

Teachable vs. Kajabi: Which Online Course Platform Is Best?

Similar But Not The Same

These platforms or learning management systems are made to help you sell your online courses, and they are geared toward customers, not employees. If you are looking for a platform to create employee training, you may need to select another eLearning technology.

Kajabi and Teachable both host your course, and that’s usually the reason why people purchase them. We used Teachable years ago to create our first course because it was the cheaper and a well-known name at the time. But what we realized is that it didn’t offer everything we needed to not only create and host but also sell our courses (and isn’t that the goal anyway?).

Teachable Offers Limited Features

Teachable can be used to create online courses but offers limited features when it comes to the creation of landing pages, websites, sales funnels, and email marketing campaigns. There is also limited room for checkout pages and lead magnets, as well as other necessary forms.

It is one of the lowest-priced LMSs on the market, and it offers a free plan, so if budget is a deal breaker, then you can try it but keep in mind that you will have to spend money to get other services (such as email marketing provider or landing page builder) and integrate them all with Zapier or something similar.

In addition, Teachable’s email marketing is only for current students, not prospective students, so you will need to sign up for Mail Chimp or Convertkit, which also costs money. You won’t have landing pages when working with Teachable, which is a limiting factor.

What we realized after using Teachable is that we ended up spending more because of added costs of all of these features. So, we switched to Kajabi, and we are now saving over $1,000 per year because it offers all of the features we need.

Kajabi’s Comprehensive Features

As you initially study Teachable vs. Kajabi pricing, you may notice that Kajabi costs more monthly. The Basic plan of Teachable is $39/month, billed annually ($468), and the Basic plan of Kajabi is $199/month, billed annually ($1,428). It’s almost three times more expensive.

However, when you dig deeper, you discover that Kajabi includes everything you need for your business - from website templates and hosting to webinar funnels, landing and sales pages, and many email marketing features. All of these are important in selling your online course.

In addition to this, Kajabi has sales automation functions and blogging capabilities. These are all important to developing an online reputation and selling more online courses. You can include zooming and podcasting as well as mobile apps. When it comes to features and comparing Teachable vs. Kajabi, Kajabi wins hands down.

Kajabi Vs. Teachable: Which One is Better?

After using both platforms, we came to the conclusion that integrating different features together and getting them to work well was time-consuming and cost us more money. Kajabi saves us both time and money by having a wide variety of course creation and marketing features available and integrated.

The Bottom Line

In the short run, you will save money on monthly fees with Teachable. If budget is your concern at the moment, a free Teachable plan may be an option. However, if you are serious about building your online course business, you may want to sign up for Kajabi from the beginning to avoid the stress of moving your website, courses, funnels, and email marketing campaigns from different providers in the long run. This is what we did this time around, and we couldn’t be happier.
