Loom.com is one of our favorite eLearning tools, and for a good reason – it allows you to easily create training videos, and host and share them with your Learners. If you’ve been wondering how to use Loom.com, this Loom.com tutorial is for you.

How to use Loom.com to create a screencast?

Step #1. Set Up an Account

The first thing you need to do is set up your account on loom.com. Luckily, this is easy to do, and it’s free. Simply enter all the information required and create a password. Some questions need to be answered, including if you plan on using Loom for education. Once these questions are answered, it will ask you who to collaborate with. With your account completely set up, you are well on your way to learning how to use Loom.com.

Step #2. Install the Chrome Extension for Loom

Next, you want to download the Chrome extension for Loom. Some people choose to download the desktop app as well. We recommend the desktop version for its ease of use. Once you are signed up and have your Chrome extension, you can delve further into making screencast tutorial videos.

Recording on your desktop is generally recommended in any Loom.com tutorial, as it produces higher-quality recordings. The extension has a cap on its quality. With the desktop version, you can get it all the way up to 4k, compared to the extension with 720p.

Step #3. Test the Audio

Any good Loom.com tutorial will tell you to test your recording before you do it officially. Test that the audio is working. Look at the microphone, and when it is moving up and down, it works. You should also look at what is captured on the screen. This will prepare you for making the best Loom videos.

Play back your voice and experiment with inflections until you like how it sounds. The last thing you want is to think you’ve made a good recording only to find the microphone was not working. Once you’ve made sure things are working, do a test recording. Listen to the audio yourself and see what needs improvement.
